National Defense

Posted by phil On July - 29 - 2010

One of the primary purposes of our federal governemnt is to provide us with a strong national defense. I believe in President Reagan’s creed: “Peace through strength”. I will always support the necessary funding to make sure that our heroic military has everything they need to keep our nation safe and fight to ensure that our veterans are well taken care of once they return home. That is the very least we can do for our heroes!

I believe that it is critical that jihadists and Muslim extremists are not allowed to gain access to nuclear weapons. This means stopping Iran from further developing their nuclear capability using whatever means necessary. This also means ensuring that Pakistan’s government does not fall to Al Queda or the Taliban operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Finally, we must secure our borders and keep our homeland safe. I would use all necessary personnel and resources to get the job done. It makes absolutely no sense to have our military spread out all over the world when our porous southern border allows criminals, drug traffickers and jihadists to continue to flood into our country doing tremendous damage to our nation and us citizens.

ZOGBY POLL SHOWS LONG DECISIVELY BEATING GRAYSON
Conservative Ahead 46%-38% with 17-Point Lead Among Independents

Orlando—Today, conservative Republican Todd Long held a press conference on the steps of Democrat Alan Grayson’s office and announced the results of a July Zogby poll showing Long with an eight-point lead over Alan Grayson (D-FL) 46%-38%. The results also show Long with a commanding 17-point lead among independents in a district where independents make up about 30% of the vote.

“It is now clear that a vote for Todd Long in the Republican Primary sends Alan Grayson home in November. The voters in District Eight have decided which conservative can beat Grayson. It is time for people who want conservative, commons-sense solutions to our national challenges to come together and remove this self-serving socialist who is intent on helping Nancy Pelosi destroy our great nation,” said Long.

ARIZONA IMMIGRATION LAW SPONSOR ENDORSES LONG
State Senator, Immigration Enforcement Leader Knows Who Will Fight Against Amnesty In Washington

Orlando—Today, Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce, the author of SB1070, Arizona’s new immigration law, endorsed Todd Long in his bid to unseat freshman lawmaker Alan Grayson (D-FL). Pearce was one of the headliners at Long’s Support Arizona rally earlier this month and is one of the most outspoken advocates against illegal immigration. Senator Pearce joins Sheriff Joe Arpaio, former Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo, and Congressman Steve King (Iowa) in supporting Long who has been leading an aggressive fight against illegal immigration and amnesty.

“We must stay vigilant in the defense of our Constitutional liberties, freedom and the rule of law. We are a nation of laws. We must have the courage – the fortitude – to enforce, with compassion but without apology, those laws that protect the integrity of our borders and the rights of our lawful citizens,” said Senator Russell Pearce.
“I happily offer my full endorsement and support to Todd Long in his run for Congress. In Todd, I see a conservative who fights with the warrior spirit of our Founders and that is what America needs right now,” Pearce continued. “I ask the people of the Eighth District of Florida to send Todd to Washington to fight against illegal immigration and help us finally put an end to this growing crisis.”

Long said, “It was Thomas Jefferson who told us that the execution of our laws is more important than the making of them. One of the few legitimate functions of our federal government is to protect our borders and our sovereignty and thus far the federal government has been derelict in its duty. I want to thank Senator Pearce for his support and I promise him and the people of the Eighth District that I will fight tirelessly to secure our borders, make sure American jobs go to American citizens, and stand up for the rule of law.”

Long recently led a cross-country road trip to Arizona for a rally to support the Arizona law at Bolin Memorial Park across from the Arizona State Capitol. The Arizona rally was the last in a series of rallies that began in Orlando with stops in Houston and Las Cruces.
