One of the primary purposes of our federal governemnt is to provide us with a strong national defense. I believe in President Reagan’s creed: “Peace through strength”. I will always support the necessary funding to make sure that our heroic military has everything they need to keep our nation safe and fight to ensure that our veterans are well taken care of once they return home. That is the very least we can do for our heroes!

I believe that it is critical that jihadists and Muslim extremists are not allowed to gain access to nuclear weapons. THis means stopping Iran from further developing their nuclear capability using whatever means necessary. This also means ensuring that Pakistan’s government does not fall to Al Queda or the Taliban operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Finally, we must secure our borders and keep our homeland safe. I would use all necessary personnel and resources to get the job done. It makes absolutely no sense to have our military spread out all over the world when our porous southern border allows criminals, drug traffickers and jihadists to continue to flood into our country doing tremendous damage to our nation and us citizens.

ZOGBY POLL SHOWS LONG DECISIVELY BEATING GRAYSON
Conservative Ahead 46%-38% with 17-Point Lead Among Independents

Orlando—Today, conservative Republican Todd Long held a press conference on the steps of Democrat Alan Grayson’s office and announced the results of a July Zogby poll showing Long with an eight-point lead over Alan Grayson (D-FL) 46%-38%. The results also show Long with a commanding 17-point lead among independents in a district where independents make up about 30% of the vote.

“It is now clear that a vote for Todd Long in the Republican Primary sends Alan Grayson home in November. The voters in District Eight have decided which conservative can beat Grayson. It is time for people who want conservative, commons-sense solutions to our national challenges to come together and remove this self-serving socialist who is intent on helping Nancy Pelosi destroy our great nation,” said Long.

ARIZONA IMMIGRATION LAW SPONSOR ENDORSES LONG
State Senator, Immigration Enforcement Leader Knows Who Will Fight Against Amnesty In Washington

Orlando—Today, Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce, the author of SB1070, Arizona’s new immigration law, endorsed Todd Long in his bid to unseat freshman lawmaker Alan Grayson (D-FL). Pearce was one of the headliners at Long’s Support Arizona rally earlier this month and is one of the most outspoken advocates against illegal immigration. Senator Pearce joins Sheriff Joe Arpaio, former Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo, and Congressman Steve King (Iowa) in supporting Long who has been leading an aggressive fight against illegal immigration and amnesty.

“We must stay vigilant in the defense of our Constitutional liberties, freedom and the rule of law. We are a nation of laws. We must have the courage – the fortitude – to enforce, with compassion but without apology, those laws that protect the integrity of our borders and the rights of our lawful citizens,” said Senator Russell Pearce.
“I happily offer my full endorsement and support to Todd Long in his run for Congress. In Todd, I see a conservative who fights with the warrior spirit of our Founders and that is what America needs right now,” Pearce continued. “I ask the people of the Eighth District of Florida to send Todd to Washington to fight against illegal immigration and help us finally put an end to this growing crisis.”

Long said, “It was Thomas Jefferson who told us that the execution of our laws is more important than the making of them. One of the few legitimate functions of our federal government is to protect our borders and our sovereignty and thus far the federal government has been derelict in its duty. I want to thank Senator Pearce for his support and I promise him and the people of the Eighth District that I will fight tirelessly to secure our borders, make sure American jobs go to American citizens, and stand up for the rule of law.”

Long recently led a cross-country road trip to Arizona for a rally to support the Arizona law at Bolin Memorial Park across from the Arizona State Capitol. The Arizona rally was the last in a series of rallies that began in Orlando with stops in Houston and Las Cruces.

SHERIFF JOE ARPAIO ENDORSES TODD LONG
America’s Sheriff Sees Fighter, Leader in Long

Orlando—Today, Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, offered his endorsement to Todd Long in his bid to replace Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL). Sheriff Arpaio is a nationally recognized leader in the immigration enforcement movement and has been fighting to secure our borders his entire career. Arpaio recently appeared at a rally in Phoenix to support Arizona and their new immigration law which was held by Long and local Tea Party activists.

“I am proud to offer my endorsement to Todd Long in his run for Congress. Todd is going to go to Washington and lead the fight against amnesty and to secure our borders,” said Arpaio. “With Todd fighting in Congress, we will have a better chance of reversing course and saving our Republic.”

Long said, “I admire Sheriff Joe so much because he gets things done and fights the courageous fight to keep Americans safe every single day. We know that President Obama is going to jam amnesty down our throats after this 2010 election. Our message is clear: The party is over!”

“I am the only candidate in this race fighting against amnesty and illegal immigration because I know how devastating it has been to our nation. I know that if we do not prevail on this issue, we will lose on all our other issues as well and become a bankrupt, government-dependent nation with a very low standard of living for its citizens. We will not be fooled any longer by these Republican candidates who are funded by big business, like illegal immigration and want cheap, illegal labor. The Conservative Comeback’s time has come!”

About 12 years ago, in 1998, I pled no contest to a DUI. Fortunately, God used this as my wake-up call to help turn my life around. Soon thereafter I was introduced to my wife, Ninette, a devout Christian, and several pastors, who taught and showed me what it meant to be a Christian. They helped me understand that God had a great purpose for my life and that if I would give my life to Christ, I would accomplish the things that God had intended for me to accomplish. At that point, my life changed completely and I found purpose and meaning, which is why I am running for Congress today.

I was on the long road to recovery, got married and began raising my two children, Noah and Natalia, who now attend Orangewood Christian School. We became very active in our church, Highpoint in Ocoee, with Ninette doing the children’s ministry and our family holding bible studies at our home. I became a Board member at UCP (children with special needs), became a member of the Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club (helping underprivileged children at Orange Center Elementary) and even led the construction of a prayer garden at the Harbor House (who provides shelter, clothing and services for women and children victimized by domestic violence) and became involved in many other service projects. I also decided to transition my law practice in 2007 to become a conservative activist, as I felt strongly that our nation was slipping away and we were ruining our children’s future as we abandoned all of the great principles and values given to us by our Founders.

I say all this because it is important for everyone to know the whole story. No one would want to be defined by their worst moments. Unfortunately, I had a setback with alcohol in 2005, in a trip to Tallahsseee, in which I got drunk and passed out, for which an incident report was written up by the police. This was particularly personally devastating for me because I had a family counting on me and I thought I had overcome this issue.

Immediately I sought help from my Pastor Keith Tower, who is also a licensed counselor and deals with alcohol issues. He set up an accountability plan for me, which we implemented. I have taken the position that, even though I made mistakes and let people whom I love down, I am not going to let this define who I am. I have let God break me down, mold me, and allow me to be the man He wants me to be. I am proud to say that, for the last 5 years, I have stayed strong, committed and sober. My committment to staying sober is stronger than ever and I am determined to turn my weaknesses into strenghts.

I know we all have our weaknesses and I will have to stay vigilant always with this issue. One part of being vigilant is to surround myself with people of strong character who do not drink. I want you to know that, if elected, I will use this same principle to select my staff in Washington. My pastor and I have discussed the importance of always taking my family or a close friend with me wherever I go to whom I am accountable.

I will not let you down and I want to assure you that I do not take this issue lightly. It is important that one learns from his mistakes, accepts the consequences and makes the necessary changes in their life. I also want to assure everyone that no matter what character attacks may come my way, I will not retaliate but continue to press forward with my specific conservative solutions that I believe will bless this nation.

LONG WINS WINDERMERE STRAW POLL
Beats Webster Handily in His Own Backyard
Orlando — Last night, Todd Long continued his undefeated streak, winning his fourth straight straw poll at the Southwest Orange County Republican (SWOCR) Candidate Forum at Windermere Town Hall. This win comes on the heels of straw poll victories at the Orange County Republican Executive Committee Hob-Nob, the Orlando TeaParty Hob-Nob, and the Celebration GOP Candidate Forum. Long was also the favorite in a poll conducted by Zogby International, which gave Long a double-digit lead, showing the conservative activist and radio show host has strong support amongst the GOP’s grassroots base. Webster (who decided not to attend the debate held in the middle of his former Senate District) finished a distant fifth in the voting.

“It is obvious, from all of these debates, that Republicans are looking for a candidate with specific, conservative solutions to our national challenges to represent them in Washington. They are looking for someone who has that fighting spirit of our Founders. Lastly, they want someone who will fiercely challenge the failed Establishment of both parties who have abandoned the principles and values that made America so prosperous and they see these qualities in our campaign,” said Long.

Join us today, Monday, April 26 at Orlando City Hall for a Religious Freedom Rally. Two bills that are working their way through the Florida Legislature would secure for Floridians their Constitutional right to worship freely. One bill, HB31, would prevent school boards from telling teachers and faculty that they cannot wear crosses or other religious symbols in school. The other, HB1399, is an amendment to the Florida Constitution that would allow the state to directly or indirectly give money to faith based groups. Please call your State Rep. and State Senator and tell them to support these bills. Also, join us downtown at City Hall at noon to rally in support of these two bills.

“All conservatives know that the Republican Party needs new leadership with fresh ideas and a real commitment to our Constitution. The voters see that in our campaign. We said in the beginning that this campaign was going to be a freight train that was going to run right over Grayson and you are seeing that happen. We call on all Republicans to get on board so we can start our general election campaign efforts now to get the job done,” said Long.

STEVE KING ENDORSES LONG
Glenn Beck’s Favorite Congressman Hopes for a Conservative Comeback in FL-8

Orlando, FL/Kiron, IA—Today, Congressman Steve King (R-IA,) a leader in the fight to stop Obamacare, endorsed conservative Todd Long in his bid to unseat Alan Grayson (D-FL). King and Long are in agreement on key issues facing our nation, including: the Fair Tax, a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, and 100% repeal of Obamacare.

“All across the country Americans are stepping up to their duty to defend our Constitution and individual liberty. We need a full spectrum of Constitutional conservatives in Congress. Todd is that man and I ask Floridians to send Todd Long to Washington to join me in putting Congress back on its rightful constitutional foundation,” said King.

“Congressman King is a warrior for the conservative cause. This is why Glenn Beck sings his praises and why his endorsement means so much to me. If the people send me to Washington, I hope to join Steve King, and others who are leading the way,” said Long.

Congressman Steve King will host a fundraiser for Long on, April 12, 2010 in Orlando after the Tea Party event at City Hall.
